Hi Guy's.I bought a used car.It broke down 2 days before Xmas.I got the AA to take it to the nearest garage that dealt with the particular make of car.They found that the "coilpacks" had failed and needed replacing.They completed the work which cost me around £300.Two weeks after this i recieved a duplicate service book from the last main dealer that i knew had serviced the car.They advised me that the car had a manufacturer recall outstanding,And that i needed to take it to my nearest main dealer.When i phoned the main dealer to book the recall i found out that the recall was for the replacement of inferior "coilpack".
I advised the main dealer that the car had already broken down and that i had it towed to an independent garage and that they had replaced the coilpack.I asked them if they would refund the money that i was forced to pay out due to the breakdown of their inferior coilpack.They said that as it was not a safety recall thay did not need to reinmburse me.Even though i am out of pocket through their inferior product.Can they do this?
I mean i would not have had to pay out this sum,If they had used the correct standard of coilpack when the car was built.Plus the recall was for them to replace the coilpack for free.Can they get out of this really?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The recall will require the return of OE coil packs, so if you can get the ones back off the Independant you can take it back to the Dealer and get your free recall...otherwise you're stuffed im afraid.
