Some interesting comments on the effect of potential rate rises..

Looks like the typical mortgage holder should be able to bear the cost of any increases in rates. It's suggesting 29% of pay to service a mortgage even if rises are fully passed on.
Only 29%, is that all?? that puts another forum urban myth to the sword.

There's about 6 threads about this from the usual suspects trying to convince people not to buy just because they can't. Tragic.

I cant say I care that much about house prices. I'm here for the interest rate discussions and general economy chats to pass the time while I work away at my MFW challenge.
Don't worry HP next month they might be down.

I'm here for the entertaiment value, the other boards on the forum are where you pick up the real gems of learning.

May be time to dig up the threads from a while ago where I was being taken to task by the usual suspects for suggesting the market was oscillating based on a supply/demand pipeline of about 3 months. Prices fall, supply decreases because sellers don't sell. Prices increase, sellers take a punt, supply increases. Result oscillation. Likely progression is that prices will deflate slightly based on the rate mortage debt is reduced overall by overpayments, when increased mortgage provision becomes available, prices will rise led by first time buyers. So slight decline into this year ramping back up in 10-12 months time.

It's a PREDICTION Graham. You're not likely to understand the reasoning, because it relies on understanding how supply and demand works when there's a lag introduced by the buying process, and you don't think supply/demand exists, but the prediction is:

small falls for a few months based on capital repayment rates, followed by rises when mortgages become more generally available in about 10-12 months time.

    Shortly after 1pm every day.

That's when the nurses go to lunch and leave the computer unattended.
