Getting my money back

My daughter was in a dance club and was due to take part in a show. We paid for the costumes for the show, but she has now left. I have asked for the money back for the costumes but the dance club organiser is refusing to give the money back. What can I do about this?

    Hi there,

I think you need to clarify some points before anyone will be able to help you.
    • Why did she leave?
    • Do you have some sort of contract set up with the dance club? If so, do the T&Cs cover this predicament?
    • Have the actual costumes already been purchased? If so, who has them?

  • Hi PinkLipGloss,

She left because she was unhappy with the way she was being treated. There was no contract and according to the teacher the costumes have already been orderred but no body has them as yet. I have a feeling they haven't been orderred as she has been saying this since January and nobody has seen them yet.

Clearly your daughter no longer wants to participate in the forthcoming show.

You (or your daughter) have decided to withdraw from a commitment made.

As you have already asked for your money back, probably the only course open to you now is to ask the dance club organiser for the costume(s) you have ordered and paid for to be forwarded to you when they are available.

So you want to stick the dance club for kit bought for your daughter to take part in a show???

You need to move on, not fester in a useless argument.

Knowing what some dance costumes can cost I'm not surprised the OP has asked the question.
If your daughter had stayed at the club, what happens to the costimes afterwards? Would the remain with the club, or be the property of the individual dancer? If the latter, then you have a better case to ask for the costume that you've paid for. If it's accepted that being part of the club means you pay the cost for the club to have costumes for the dancers, then you may have to accept that leaving (maybe at short notice?) means you lose out. Will another dancer be taking her place? If so, could you have a word with her mother to come to some arrangement?
If you really believe they've not been ordered, do you know where she gets them, do you have anyway of checking this?
