It is looking increasingly theoretical anyway, as my folks are clearly intending to wind down to a zero closing balance ;o) When visiting today I learned that they've purchased a new caravan; and, being larger than their old one, they obviously need a new car to tow it ...

This might be a bit drastic, given that each individual has an IHT exemption of almost 300k.
