Talk Talk new lines...

I have a vaguely similar problem just now. My husband left me last year, and I have been trying for months to get the Sky tv/phone/broadband account changed to my name. I eventually managed to get the tv changed to my name at the start of the month, but they told me that they couldn't do anything about the phone and broadband until his account was cancelled. He had given them notice, which expired yesterday.
After complaining at the time of transfer of the tv, I had been told that sky would call me when this happened to arrange for the new account in my name. Needless to say, this did not happen, and at 8pm yesterday, my broadband and phone were cut off. I have been on the phone for most of this morning trying to get this sorted. They have told me that, even though there was a sky line there yesterday, they need to send out an engineer before I can get a line, and the first available slot is 19th April! they will not be able to even talk about broadband until the line is reconnected.
I am absolutely at my wits end. We cannot get mobile reception at my house and so no means of contacting anyone. 2 of my 3 children are studnets, and immediate and constant access to the internet is crucial to the exams which they are sitting over the next 8 weeks. I just don't know if I'd be any quicker with an other provider. Can anyone help?0 -
Ok. Thanks for that.
Having just spoken to the cancellation / operations team of Talk Talk, I'm starting to see the picture far more clearly as to what is going on. Apparently, any old Tiscali lines that are ceased are being upgraded from standard ADSL to ADSL Max (something or other), and what they are doing is effectively ripping out old equipment for new. This is the reason that new lines are being provisioned for these cases. He did enquire with his technical team to see if the line that ceased at my property four weeks ago could be made live again with the existing standard ADSL line equipment, (and could have requested it to be made live by the end of this afternoon) but was told that the old wiring / equipment has physically been ripped out, and therefore impossible.
So, this is the real reason (in my case at least) that a physical new line is required and why an engineer needs to visit.0 -
And, reading post #12, Sky too!Doesn't this farce tell you why you should avoid TalkTalk at all costs!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
