Way to go skintmonkey! I've been dithering a lot with finances for the past 2 years but now have taken the bull by the horns and am determined to reduce our debts considerably. Hope you achieve what you want.SkintMonkey wrote:
Thank you. I spent a lot of last year dithering with my head in the sand, but this year I'm determined to take action! Although I did learn to swim last year, so shouldn't be too hard on myself.

Good on you for going for it - determination is the key! My goal is to move house with my husband and start a family, I'm determined to do it and it puts everything else in line and encourages me to be a good girl....although I still have the odd naughty moment!

My car was MOT'd and serviced yesterday and I've now got a bill of £400 to pay. Why do these things happen just when I'm trying get on track.......feel really down now.0

I thought I should update my thread as we have news. Last week we accepted an offer on our house and then yesterday our offer on a house was accepted, so I am very pleased.
I can't wait to move for lots of reasons. The house will be bigger and we can have more people over to stay...and it is much nearer to civilisation so people will be able to pop in for a cuppa without having to travel miles. This is where we are going to settle down and start our family
and we will actually save quite a bit in petrol to and from work (husband will cylce to work) and other costs will come down which is fab. Cannot wait!
Other than that, I'm still plodding on, trying to be a good MSE/DFW and continuing to have ups and downs, good weeks and bad weeks. I really need to shift this last £2k as soon as possible, so will try and focus on that.
A job I'm after is being advertised on Friday, so that is something else to think about and keep me busy and not out spending!!!
Anyway, that is me for now (I think), best wishes to you all (whoever is out there reading this!).

I've decided that it is about time for me to update my thread (not that anyone would have noticed that it hasn't been updated for yonks).
Well its all go at the moment, my husband and I are hoping to exchange contracts next week on the sale of our house and purchase of a lovely house nearby. We are very excited and cannot wait.
Job wise, I've got an interview next Thursday for a new job, but its within my team at the same place...very nervous about it.
Money wise, well I've been terrible this past month spending on my debt card far too much. So have vowed that I'm going to start just bringing enough cash with me for petrol so I have no excuse...I'll keep my joint account card with me in case of problems, but can't be so easily tempted to spend on that as have to explain to husband. Oh and I need resume making my lunches every day - I'm spending a fortune!
I think once the house move and job interview are out of the way, I'll be able to think more clearly about my fianances and being better with my money...0 -
SkintMonkey you're wrong - I had actually been wondering how you were getting on.
Good luck with the house move - it's always stressful but hope it goes as smoothly as these things can. And GOOD LUCK with the interview. Post questions here (start a new thread) if you need advice on that.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Well we've moved house (hurrah) and are very happy in our new pad. We saved up for the move - to pay for costs and things for our new house, so we've been ok money wise. My own account isn't looking as healthy as I'd like, but pay day is next Thursday and cannot wait.
I'm really going to work on hacking down my credit card now and getting that as low as possible. I've also been thinking about ways I can make more money, but going to have to give that some more thought.
I went for a job interview but wasn't successful, but am quite happy to crack on in my current job. To be really honest my goal is to start a family not climb the corporate ladder, so things probably happen for a reason. I've decided that over the next six months, I'm going to try and cut down my credit card as much as possible (currently standing at just over £2k) - hopefully should clear it if I go full throttle. Then I plan to save as much as possible each month to put in the baby fund - we are not sure exactly when we will start trying for a baby - but are thinking about me at least coming off the pill in about 3/4 months time (apologies if that is too much detail).
Anyway, must go, but thanks for those who read this and sorry I've been rubbish at updating.....
SM x
PS I got rid of my signature because seeing my credit card balance every time I posted a message really demotivated me, so instead I will try and update it with my savings etc....0
