Car tax- cant pay it!

hi all, i was wonderign if you can help me.
my car tax is due on 1st April, and i dont get paid until 8th April. What can i do? I have looked on the back of the reminder, and it says that you can go up to 14 days without tax, but cannot park it on a public road in that time- is this correct?

i could park it at a friends house for those 7 days, not a problem.

I believe the vehicle must not be used or kept on any public road at all whilst untaxed, unless taking it to a PRE-ARRANGED mot (as you can't tax without one!)

If you have got the reminder then why not just SORN it untill you can afford to tax it?
It's quite straight forward and lasts for 12 months but you can tax it at anytime and this will just cancel the SORN automatically.

*If you don't notify the DVLA of your intentions before the tax runs out then you can be fined a fixed penalty*

save a load of effort if you cd borrow the money for 6 month's tax of your friend then pay him (or her) back on the 8th April.

I dont see what the problem is, take it to your friends, park it there, tax it on 8th, simple.

Youre not using it on a road, it will be parked up for 8 days only. Stop worrying

What mcKneff says .. you've 14 days so you don't need to SORN it. Just park it up at your mates for a week.

Dont forget even though the car is off the road till the 8th you will still have to tax it from the beginning of April unless you sorn it until May. Can you not pay with a credit card and pay the card off as soon as you get paid?

Are you kidding? You've had 12 months to think about this.

You've got a good choice of answers above.

But try saving up for the next one. A bit of grown up budgeting will stop you from being in this position again.
