lodged money now its disappered

Hi i recently opened 2 regular saver accounts for my kids with the Halifax. Once i got the paper work sent out i called to the branch on monday and completed all the paper work and lodged 25 into each account.
Now in halifax branches they have like a welcome point where you go to do things like that. well the girl there completed the checks and then took the cash off me and went away behind the counter, she came back and told me that it was done, so i left, they were very busy and i was glad to get out of the place to be honest but after leaving i realised i didnt get a reciept for the lodgment, thought to myself sure theres never a problem with lodgments not being registered.
i came home and checked the accounts online later that night and the accounts were showing opened and the £25 was in each account. However i logged on the next day to get the account details to set up SO and the accounts were showing they needed actioned and no money in either account.
to make a long story short called into the branch today they cant find the money and are going to investigate it, where do i stand on this if they come back to me and say we cannot trace the £50? has anyone else experienced this?
