Fake item: why should I pay to return?

I did a BIN on some scruffy old motorcycle panniers which were described as leather in both the title & the description. Clearly when they arrived they were manmade as you could see on the reverse of the fabric where exposed.
Seller is offering to refund purchase price + outward postage if I return them. BUT! it will probably cost me £8 to send them, so I'll still be £8 out of pocket.
At best it's a genuine error, at worst its fraud!
If they'd been advertised as manmade I wouldnt have given them a second look - old leather matures, old plastic just looks tatty!
Ebay resolution tells me to return them at my own expense, which I think stinks.
What do you guys think?
