Switch from Southern Electric to their online tariff

Hi,

I have just done a comparison on uSwitch - this suggests that I'd save about £82 a year (gas and electric) by switching to Scottish Power.

However, it doesn't quote me for any of Southern Electric's tariffs - I am currently on their eneryplus Argos No Standing Charge tariff. I have calculated myself (based on the same usage) that to switch to Southern Electric's Go Direct 5 online tariff, I'd save £80 a year.

So, what I want to do it switch to another tariff with my existing supplier. When I called Southern Electric I was told that I have to switch it online, but when I log on to my account I can't see the option to change tariff.

Do I effectively have to sign up as a new customer to get the online deal with my existing supplier?!

I signed up for their Go Direct 3 plan last year and from memory I think you do have to just about reapply online, almost as if you were a new customer. It was all OK though and went smoothly.

Sadly this plan finishes tomorrow and so I will probably be trying to switch to another plan with them as well.

I'm in the same position as you. I had planned to switch to their Go Direct 5 plan on 1 April but unfortunately it's been withdrawn.

The lady I spoke to at Southern Electric said that they would be introducing another discount plan in due course but she couldn't say when. So I'm now left with the choice of either switching to another supplier to secure one of the dwindling number of discount plans still on offer or staying put with SE until they introduce a new discount plan. Would be interested to hear what you or any other ex-Go Direct 3 customers are planning to do.

If you can't find the Argos tariff, then choose the Southern Electric Nil Service charge tariff.

I believe SSE removed their go direct 5 tariff for new subscribers on 24 March 2011
