A word of warning for those on PPM changing suppliers

Long story short - moved from house with Eon credit meter to BG PPM. Advised by Eon to switch to them, then swap to credit meters, they would do it FOC, fab I thought.
Takes a while to swap the suppliers, so have to stick with BG for the time being. I get paid monthly, so put the credit on the meters at the start of the month BIG MISTAKE When my supply changed over I had credit on both meters - no worries I was told by BG and Eon, it will be cross charged when the meter readings go across. Fine thinks me.
When the PPM were taken out, there was still credit on both gas and leccy, totaling about £50. No problem I was told, it will get credited to your new account. Fine, no problems then.
Here I am 3 months later, EOn have charged me for the gas and electric I used on PPM on my credit bill, cos they haven't been paid for it ie no cross credit from BG - I asked for this to be disputed back in Feb, and had heard nothing so spent hours on the phone last night and today. Eon now say, nothing to do with us, you need to get a refund from BG.
Why didnt they tell me that back in Nov when the supply changed for goodness sake. Now BG want me to send in all the receipts and they will see if I am due a refund. (I dont have them all, as I didn't know you were supposed to keep them, not having done PPM before, I thought once it credited on the meter it was fine and chucked it out). I do have some, thank goodness, and also they want me to send my tenancy agreement to them. Well, I have said I can send a copy, but I'm not sending originals cos heaven knows where they'd end up.
Anyhow, the upshot is, if you are changing supplier, for heavens sake don't have a balance on the meters, its a nightmare
I had never ever used PPM before, and the whole thing is so complicated, I wish I had been warned about this before I arranged to change supplier.
sorry for the long post....I feel better now!!

When I got my meters changed it was difficult to get the credit left on the meters back and I hadn't changed supplier at that stage. I was with British Gas and it took a lot of arguing and complaining to get the credit added to my next bill. So I would add to your post that even when just getting meters changed, try to let the credit run down on them first.0
