I have just recently been seriously considering moving out of my parents home for the first time. I've been searching online for flats to rent in my area and have narrowed down a few that I would possibly like to go and view. My question is, and it's probably a stupid one, can you offer to rent at a lesser price than…

The national average is now down to just 2 weeks, and as has been mentioned, this is why rents are now rising in most areas.

If there are a lot of places sitting empty for a month or more, then your chances to negotiate increase. If most places are let within a week or two, then not so much.

The calculation for a landlord is simple. A 5 week void is the same as a 10% discount on rent for the year. Put yourself in their shoes and you'll know what you can realistically offer.
