Dvd Recorder Advice

I am thinking about buying a DVD recorder to copy video 8 and VHS tapes I have of my kids etc when they were young.
I have a fair amount to copy so it appears ot would be cheaper for me to buy a recorder and do this myself rather than send the tapes to a company.
Any advice re what recorder to buy would be much appreciated.
Are there any functions that make copying easier ?

Hi
I have done ours of our son, in two ways, direct to the HDD of my PC using the red/white/yellow pin leads (yes I am sure there is a more techinical terminology but I am sure you can understand that), and then edited them in a software package (mine was Studio 8 which came with my digital camcorder), and also for speed I have also taken them onto my hdd/dvd recorder which I have linked my old video too, and put them quickly onto the hard drive, and again I can edit bits out before recording to a dvd. (Yet another job to get round to). They are a little grainy but they always are, and it does bring back good memories while you are doing this.
Beware though they do take a large amount of HDD space up, so I ended up getting a large usb ext. drive so not to kill my PC.
Hope this helps.
