Special needs pushchair

My gorgeous Normal healthy little boy contracted Encephalitis in June last year, he is now classed as Disabled and special needs because he has no cognition now and doesn't talk plus Epileptic.
To cut a very long and painful story short he needs a pushchair, the physical side of him is perfect but with no fear and doesn't understand what we say to him any more there is a chance he will run off.
We have a Maclaren special needs chair but I want something with 3 wheels.
I founds this which would of been perfect http://www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/babyjogger_independence.html
but the front wheel doesn't swivel for some strange reason, so is there any other suggestions for a pushchair for a nearly 4 year old boy.
Many thanks

The front wheel doesn't swivel because it's a jogger. Try running with a normal buggy and you'll see the problem. Making it swivelly and fixed makes it more expensive.
Hope you find what you need. Sorry about your boy x:wall:0 -
For a nearly four year old, a normal three wheeler would be fine, my urban detour carries both my kids. Though if you want something that lasts then spend more money on a specific product.
Have a look here?

The prices are a bit steep..:wall:0 -
Try looking for a 2nd hand mountain buggy with a swivel wheel, they are like the tank equivilant of a 3 wheeler, mine would fit my 3 year old and 7year old in it on long walks and would easily last your 4 year old till about 6 or 70

Sorry just to add the older style were a lot bigger than the newer ones, also look for land rover and pegasus too.0

Just to add, I know at times it may be easier to have him in a pushchair but why not use a wriststrap to stop him running off.0

Have a look and see if you can find a second hand "Bob Gear" buggy, I picked one up on ebay last summer for my DD (she's 5) they have a swivel wheel and are guaranteed to hold 35 kilos, at 5 years old DD is just touching 20 kilos. They are American (hence the find one second hand, unless you have someone over there who can have it sent to them then forward it to you as I don't think they despatch over here) I love ours as does DD. HTHYou never know how strong you are until you have no other option.0

Sorry to hear about your little boy.
I can't recommend any pushchairs that would be suitable but I understand that purchases for disabled children (people) are VAT exempt, HTHThrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
My understanding about the Mountain Buggy range of special needs pushchairs is that the longer footstall goes over the wheel at the front, so it needs to be fixed so it doesn't rub on the foot area.
I can highly recommend 'Mountain Buggy' and not the other immitations. They glide, are the top of the range of three wheelers, so the fact the front wheel is fixed doesn't interfere with performance
Having said that if you want one with a swivel wheel for now, why not pick one up second hand on ebay to tide you through until he outgrows it and needs the special needs bit.

PS
Below is a picture of the foot plate. According to the website it is now discontinued, but would highly recommend trying to locate one second hand.
They come up frequently on ebay for a reasonable price.

Mountain Buggy
Terrain XL
The world is a big place with lots to see and hear and smell and touch. So lets get out there and be part of it ! If you're still a small person but too big for an ordinary pushchair, and a chair with wheels won't get you where you want to go, then maybe a Mountain Terrain XL would be the answer.
Sadly Mountain Buggy have stopped making this model !, we recommend the Advance Mobility Spirit as a suitable replacement for some users.
Most children grow out of pushchairs because the distance between the base of the seat and the footplate is too small for their longer leg. For most makes of pushchair the increased weight is also a limiting factor but not so for the superior build quality of the Mountain Buggy with a maximum payload of 35kg.0 -
Noah'sPennilessMum has a disabled child's pushchair she was mentioning last week she was planning on selling, I have no idea what type etc. but you could maybe search her username and ask her. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
