Not sure where exactly to put this so please feel free to move this to a better section

Yesterday afternoon my OH had a knock on the door from a Npower rep who was pretty keen for her to let him in to use the phone so he could compare prices for her gas and electricity. The thing is she is not with Npower for either utility as she uses another provider. But the guy knew her first name as it was on his clipboard and was saying that they could do everything at a much lower price, all the while pressuring her into letting him into the flat.

Luckily she never let him in and managed to get rid of him as she had a doctor's appointment to go to but she mentioned that he was keen to come round another time. He did ask a couple of questions which I found odd like how many bedrooms she had.

I did ask if he had a number or name and/or ID card. All she can remember was that he was wearing the uniform. This all happen pretty fast. He didn't go to any other flats. She lives in a block of 6. He just disappeared.

If he comes round again what should she do?

She should say "no thank you" and shut the door, if necessary forcing it shut.

Thanks for the advice. I have advise her to call the police. The only thing is how on earth did he know her name. She doesn't have anything with her name on her door or flat block.

I have had utility companies knocking my door before and they have known my name. I suspect they get it from the electoral register.

I'm pretty sure that they buy the electoral roll of the government, though I think you can opt out of this option when you have to fill in the form saying who lives in the house (same form you can request a postal vote)

May be ring NPower and see if they have been in the area but then again if he is a rogue, he might follow them from area to area

I was told off by a NPower caller, as he asked me "if I didn't need to see his prices cause I was so rich" I told him "what do you think, I'm at home and you're in the cold knocking on people doors"

Now when I think it about I was very rude and he was just doing his job, but I couldn't believe the cheek

Just to let you know that she called the police last night and they asked her to call Npower to see if it was one of their agents. Did say to call back if it wasn't. However today I been trying ot find a number to call and couldn't. So tried several numbers from the list in saynoto0870.com. But just been pass onto several different teams so getting feeling no one at Npower actually knows the number to find out the simple fact of whether an agent is in the area or not.

I have emailed the contact address you have given me regarding this matter. However after given a full description of the man and my friend's postcode, the date and time, I don't see how given my friend's contact details will help the matter further. All I want to is whether someone was working for your company so that if there wasn't I can contact the police to say so.

Sorry but does not look good for your company.
