Rented house - Should i be responsible for fixing this?

This maybe a repeat of what has already been posted and i apologise for that in advance.

We have been in our rented house over a year now. We have a fitted kitchen with fitted fridge freezer and dishwasher. When we moved in the seal on the freezer is abit iffy and does not seal all the way round, leaves a gap of bout 2cm wide. we did not notice this when we first moved so never mentioned it.
Its obviously not very eco as the fridge freezer must be using more elec to keep cool and im having to defrost it couple of times year due to ice build up.

Should I fix this or should it be the landlords responsibility? And if its me how do you fix a freezer seal?

Thanks

Are you sure it's 2 cm? Thats the same as the door open.

2cm is a big gap and your food won't be frozen and you are risking giving yourself food poisoning.

This is your landlord's responsibility to fix. Send him a letter (so it is all done formally with proof of posting) and then give him a call about it.

In the meantime use some heavy tape to keep the door closed.

This repair may be the responsibility of either the T or the LL, depending on the contents of your tenancy agreement.

The LL has no statutory (set by law) responsibility to maintain fridges or freezers, so they are entitled to "contract out" and make the T liable for their upkeep. In order to do this, the LL would need to have set this out in your tenancy agreement. Do you have such a term in your agreement? If you do, then the repair is your responsibility. If your agreement is silent, then assuming that the fridge / freezer belongs to the LL (ie you are not free to take it with you at the end of tenancy) then it is also reasonable to assume that your LL has a duty to affect a repair.

I think you're all reading the OP's measurement of 2cm incorrectly, I read the OP to be saying that a 2cm section of the seal is not 'sealing' correctly against the appliance carcass (body of the fridge) when the door is 'closed', not that the whole door is 2cm away from the carcass (as if it were swung open).
