Why not? Plenty of young people do jobs for nightclubs and the like where they are paid in cash.
You don't have to run your own business to be self employed.

So if your bank doesn't provide the service you want and you know an alternative that does, there is an option open to you.My mum sometimes sends me money, she likes to put a reference to tell me what it's for. When I banked with Barclays, I used to see the references, with Halifax I don't.0 -
As said earlier, you're after a business account. I am surprised Halifax keep your account open.
Though I do have a few complaints myself about paperless statements - not only with Halifax but other banks too.
