Otherwise it might be the same situation as we have for our Telewest cable for the main tv. If we ever want to record anything from a cable channel the programme HAS to be actually showing on the tv screen...which seems to be a bit silly as we can't then watch anything else on that tv. I've tried all sorts of things but no luck. Luckily we have a couple of others in the house (one with the Freeview box plus HDD-DVDR) as alternatives.

That definitely is silly! These cable companies sell their products as being the only one you'll ever need, yet you can't record one program while watching another? Although I suppose that was the same situation with Sky until Sky+ came along.

Tell me about it. If you want to record one thing and watch another, you need to boxes.
  • And that's more money every month into their bottomless pockets  . It's their cunning plan ;)...I wonder how many people fall for it?
They would have to pay me to have more boxes as the only reason to have cable tv is for the Sky One channel ...otherwise all the others are on Freeview now. Not that there's a lot to watch on any of them really.
  • thanks boatman and the rest of you guys still non the wiser!! I know at mo can only tape/record a terrestrial channel whilst watching cable and visa virca.

will I be able to use the freeveiw though... will i need another cable for the aerial??

    thanks guys Bargaingirl X

Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.

Note the remark that says: Quote "As I understand it a Freeview box connected to cable or satellite won't receive anything at all."

The basics for getting Freeview on a normal tv setup are....You will need an RF aerial cable to connect a rooftop/loft aerial to the ANT/RF IN of a Freeview box in order to receive the Freeview channels (if available) on a tv. Connect the Freeview box directly to the tv using a scart lead. You also use a short RF aerial lead to pass-through the analogue signal from the Freeview box's ANT/RF OUT to the tv's ANT/RF IN for when the box is off.

If you are still asking whether you can operate both systems on one tv without it getting a headache and throwing a wobbly (?) well that is something you will have to find out.

Not many cable users would want to do that, I suspect. I may be wrong though....? ;)
