Alternative to Evernote with free syncing to Android?

Just started using Evernote and I find it quite useful so far. I only use it for note taking, not to store clippings to read later.
The only issue I have with it is I cannot access the notes on my Android phone when I don't have a signal. It needs internet access unless to pay $5 per month to get the upgraded version to allow offline syncing.
Whilst it's good. It's not worth $5 a month to me. Is there anything else out there that will allow the same thing for free? Note syncing, windows and android client, offline access to notes.
Cheers

Springpad is your best bet - I use it on my android device for a cookbook (I have different notebooks in it for different food types). The web interface is also very good.

I use MyPhoneExplorer for my desire, the links for it are here , I syncs via wifi/usb and syncs with thunderbird and outlook amongst others.
