we have been with direct line since 2005
in dec 2008 some women slightly swiped the golf we had at the time, liability was accepted and the third party fixed our car
yesterday trying to renew or quote for possible change of car its clear there still a open case!! he says non fault not recovered! its that accident, i couldnt sodding believe it, he did his best to call round and try find out whats what but end result couldnt help me
so in effect the insurance is 60 quid dearer and prob has been for the last couple renewals, all he could do is give me the direct number for the liability team or whatever they are called
how wrong is that!! 2 years and 3 months later we are still being penalised for no fault of our own, not only that we have no idea how long its going to take to resolve

sounds like the claims dep make a mistake and haven't diaried to make a recorery. Get the claim reference number and call the claims department and ask them to review the file urgently and pursue recovery. This should have been clear cut recovery but eveidently it has fallen down the smallest of cracks. Once this is all sorted you can then talk to them about the premium refund you are due from the renewals.
Be polite and patient with the people you talk to in the claims dep - it wasn't their individual fault - but just be clear about what you expect from them (i.e. get someone on to it in the next day or two).0 -
i did call them aparantly they have not received payment, aparantly a cheque was sent form the other ins company but never arrived hence claim still open
doesnt help me though does it0 -

Clearly direct line don't care about getting their money back... they're so minted (on government money) they don't mind
! /endsarcasm
Direct Line are naff lately anyway, hope it gets sorted for you soon though!0 -
thing is my wife would of renewed in 2009 2010 and now 2011 on there increased rate due to the open case, the chap on the phone says it wouldnt make much difference atal but i think he was telling me porkie pies0

If Direct Line make a recovery then you should be entitled to a refund - if it made a difference. Just keep knocking...0

If it was £60 on this occasion you can bet its been a similarish price for the other ones... all adds up!0 -
It would have been a greater sum of money the time before as it is at the most the first day and then gets less.
Do as "dogbot" said get the claim ref number, this will then get you to the claims dept and you can get the details of the third party, contact the third party yourself and after a few divertions keep (ask) the persons direct dial number and name. call the claims dept back and give these details and they shouldn't take to long.
Or ask the claims person how much your insurance paid, and if they havent paid ask whos fault it was etc, this may resolve it alone. e.g I had someone hit my parked car so I called the insurance and it was logged as a unsettled claim, this affected my insurance until I asked how the accident happened, and they said my car was stationary so could not have been hit so hassle gone.
once sorted then ask for the extra premium paid for the 2/3 years before, I dont see why you shouldn't be intitled to it.0 -
do you think a letter would work better? i could write one to the claims department complaints if there is such a thing lol0

They're a telephone based company. If you think you've exhausted all the calls you can make, then write. Otherwise I would keep on calling them. And make notes.0
