SB - Adsense newbie

Hi all, I'm a newbie so forgive if this isn't posted in the right place.

In the past 18 months I have been homeless and declared myself bankrupt, if only I'd have know about this wonderful site sooner how different things may have been? Thankfully I now have a roof over my head and I'm starting out in a new career making websites and to that end I would really like a little help understanding the finer points of googles adsense program.

I have recently implemented adsense on one of my sites and I am looking to fully utilise it's potential for generating income (within the boundaries of googles terms & conditions.) As I understand it google forbid you to have a disclimer on your site "encouraging" users to click the ads thus making you money, however i was wondering whether it is viable to have a link to an external website address within the site that users can click if they want to learn how to support the site and on that external website (with no adsense ads) have a disclaimer notifying users that if they wish to support the first site they "could" click the ads or use the google toolbar search function on that site. Since this message would be on an external site is it governed by the terms and conditions of the adsense contract?

I'm not looking to get rich but if I can make users aware somehow of the benefit to myself through say their use of the google toolbar function it would at least help me towards paying for the hosting of the site.

Legalese never having been my strong suit I thought I would turn to other money saving (making) experts for suggestions/recommendations.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Why don't you email the google adsense team (under contact us on your adsense page)? I'm not sure what you can and can't do but I'd be careful as google have a habit of suspending accounts.

It's against Adsense TOS. Your account will be banned if you do this.
From the TOS, "Publishers may not bring unnatural attention to sites displaying ads or referral buttons through [...] unwanted advertisements on third-party websites. Publishers are also not permitted to use deceptive or unnatural means to draw attention or incite clicks on referral buttons."

By a sort of general consensus, most adsense publishers (who make vast amounts of money) will tell you - if you are in adsense to get rich, you won't. Concentrate on the content and not the money.

Please remember the flip side of this too - if you ask people to click on your ads to support you, it is probable that people are not going to be interested in what they click on. Advertisers pay to have those ads there - it isn't fair on them to have users who aren't interested clicking on their ads as they are essentially paying for a click which won't convert for them. Many of these advertisers are small businesses, so it isn't fair on them.
  • Thanks for the quick reply guys. I suspected as much but still thanks for the clarification on this matter.
