Venice in February

DH is treating me to a few days in Venice in late February as it's my birthday!
I know it'll probably be rather cold and damp, but can anyone recommend a rather good, cosy but reasonably priced hotel?
We're not looking for 5 star total luxury, but it would be nice to stay in an ancient palazzo type place, chandeliers and all........any ideas?

Can't help with your specific enquiry but if I am travelling anywhere I always check it out on Trip Advisor. They have lots of recommendations from other travellers and, for most places, local guides that can advise on anything. They also have hotel reviews by customers which are quite useful but should be taken with a pinch of salt as they all seem to have some people that loved the place and some that hated it.
If you find a place that you like I would also suggest checking the prices on hotels.com and alpharooms.com, via Quidco. I have used both and they both paid up with no problems.0 -
I'd recommend doing a search on venere.com - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
Plus for 4% off, use code: BK5HX8W
Hope that helps0 -
Hi i took my boyfriend, now fiance! to Venice in September.
We booked a gorgeous apartment 1 minute from the Rialto Bridge through holiday-rentals.co.uk
I dealt with a gentleman called Robert Hendrick.
I would HIGHLY recommend them, honest, prompt and the apartment was amazing and it really made our stay special.
You will have a great time.

Hi,
be careful, because February is carnival season and Venice will be very crowded and prices outrageous. If you can, travel in another season, if you really have to go in February go early at the start of the carnival or before, and if possible avoid Sundays, on Sundays during carnival there are one way streets even for pedestrians.0 -
Is it the whole of February thats carnival season?
It's our 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday 22nd and I was trying to locate a good deal for a suprise weekend.0 -
Shrove Tuesday is February 20 next year so the carnival will be over and prices will drop, though you will find that weekend prices are more expensive than weekdays. Booking directly with hotels is sometimes cheaper than booking through a website.0
