Hi Jack there is an earlier thread on neck of lamb that may help so I've added your thread to it.

I bought two neck fillets at the local butchers this afternoon (£2.19p for two - bargain or what!) and was wondering what to do with it... so i did a search and came accross this thread :)

Am going out to the kitchen in a minute to rub spices into the meat and will leave in the fridge until tomorrow afternoon. Lamb curry for dinner tomorrow night - yum! :D Thanks! xxxx

hi i was in buchers today and somebody ordered £5 in money for neck of lamb and he seem to get loads for his money, we love lamb just buy to often because of expensive i was wonder will neck of lamb be good fotr slow cooker ? also do they have bones? any recipes thanks in advance
  • Neck of lamb is one of those cuts that is lovely slow cooked. I have done a breast of lamb in the sc today and it cost me less than £3 and has come out lovely-fatty granted but not to its detriment.

Im kind of a meat, veg and potato type of person so no interesting recipes but definately worth giving it a go if my lamb breast is anything to go by! If it helps i left my lamb breast which was a little under 800g for just over 4 hrs in my sc on low and its lovely.

It's the best cut for Lancashire hotpot or Lamb stew type dishes, cheap and a bit fatty but cooked slowly it falls off the bones and tastes wonderful.

    perfect for slow cooker-lamb hotpot!
    neck not fatty like breast.
    chop meat,dust in flour+salt+pepper.
    slice onion and potatoes
veg stock cube in water, bung it all in ,job done!
(the flour just thickens the juices, its not essential)

I haven't had oxtail soup for ages, never thought of using it as a gravy, sounds yummy!

Neck of lamb is also excellent for curries. Have a look at lamb curry recipes and lots of them specify neck fillet...I remember making curry for Cambridge University Air Squadron using this and it was delicious.
