    Is it full?

disk image is done with disk imaging software, availaible on the hard disk manufacturers website, you'll also need an external hard disk or usb caddy

not completely full but got jealous when i saw hard drives with 500gb or more and all i've got is a measly 62gb

i have an external hd and have most stuff backed up on it...

is it worth doing or am i not gaining anything, and shall i just continue as i am dropping excess stuff onto the external hd..?

you could always get another internal hard drive and keep the existing hard drive just for windows and programs. Juyst make sure you get the right hard drive (IDE v SATA) google it and it will show you what they look like. Then its just plug in a new HDD and thats pretty much it

It's only useful if you plan to use the extra space.

If the excess stuff is important, see my signature

what make of hard disk is in the machine, and external hard disk? (see device manager)

    Vista?
