SKiing for Beginners

I wouldn't do more than a couple of lessons on a dry ski slope, just to get the feel of the boots and skis. It's a very poor approximation to the feel of snow. You will progress more in a lesson on real snow than 5 or 6 lessons on a dry slope.
If you can pay a bit more to hire good boots in resort there's nothing worse than a day in cheap badly fitting boots. If the first pair you try don't feel right ask to try another pair and bear in mind each boot manufacturer has a slightly different fit. If the boots are wet, avoid them, your feet will get cold. If you can't avoid them dry them out overnight. (but not right on top of the heat source they melt at high temperatures!).
Aldi, Lidl and TK Maxx are all good. Asda was doing a range not sure if this is still the case. Try the out of town shopping malls, our nearest ones have Helly Hansen and Trespass factory shops selling last years ranges etc.. Ebay is worth a look lots of good stuff for sale. If you have a local ski club they sometimes have sales of second hand stuff. If you pick stuff which is not obviously ski gear you can get away with using it for winter wear as well.
Shopping around for packages that include equipment hire and/or lift passes can save you a lot. Some of the resorts in USA have a lower priced lift ticket which restricts you to the lift/s which services the beginners slopes.
If you can be fairly flexible the ski tour companies offer late deals on their websites and Jan is a good time for these.0 -
