British Gas not sending me bills!!
I moved into my current property in Aug 10 and the suppliers were British Gas, so I contacted them and informed them I was a new customer rather than try and find an alternative. In Nov 10 I was yet to receive ANY correspondence so contacted them and they sent me an Elec bill for the 3 months - but no Gas. I advised them I would like to set up a DD for both but they said that my account was still under the "Occupier" and not my name so not to pay either the Gas or Elec until they sent me new bills with my name on them. Within 2 weeks they sent an Elec for £110 which I paid - but there was no Gas bill so I contacted them again to tell them. In Jan 11 I got another Elec bill for £100+ and a Gas bill for £0.00 ??? I have tried setting up a DD online several times and have always been "in a queue" when I call them. A friend told me the other day that there is a set time period where I won't have to pay - but I want to pay, but the bill is going to be MASSIVE when they get around to sorting it out. Has anyone else experienced similar with this company???

I know its a little bit different, but I'm having problems trying to get bills out of them too. I got nasty final reminders, but no initial bills or standard reminders. They've told me three times that they'll send me out a bill, but nothings materialised, and they've agreed I don't have to pay it I receive a bill. However, I still keep getting harassing phone calls, e-mails and letters that they promised to stop sending. On a more positive note though, they did agree to knock 30% off of my (yet unreceived) bill.
Only time will tell if I'll actually get a bill or if they'll honour the 30% off, as they've not been great with honesty up to this point.
The similar problem that I can see us both having is that we might end up having to pay two quarters just a month apart. It's not right, so I've already set the wheels in motion to change suppliers.
Hopefully you can get some sense out of them with your case.0 -
We left BG after many years with them because of the bills issue. We either didn't get any - or they were, as you say, nasty final reminders......sometimes when we rang to give them our readings they seemed to pluck a figure out of thin air ( kept telling us there was a "software glitch").
Gave up eventually and changed to Atlantic - what a difference! At the time they were a lot cheaper and much more efficient. We have an online account which we choose to pay quarterly - but we can input our figures every month to know exactly where we stand and we always know what the bill is going to be before it comes.0 -
If you have an account no, you can make a one-off payment on acccount any time you like-you don't have to wait to be billed. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you don't pay money to British Gas which quite honestly I wouldn't yet, you could maybe put money aside ready for when the big bill comes.
British Gas are pretty hopeless. I got two bills for my electricity account a couple of weeks apart and two what they called corrected bills two more weeks apart. Identical bills all along so no problem but they didn't seem to know what they were doing. Having said that, I'm now with EDF and don't seem to be getting any gas bills from them at all.0 -
Hi
It's true British Gas were born on MARS, change companies quick, M&S do gas and my mum said they are the best, British Gas have me registered at two address and they say this is fine, i have passed it on to the Ombudsman.0 -
'M&S' gas is just a rebranded SSE product. They don't 'do' gas any more than Tesco do broadband. No free lunch, and no free laptop
