Anyone had this problem with Amazon Card?

I've had an MBNA Amazon card for about a year, but haven't used it for over 6 months. I've just noticed that they have started debiting my bank account £25 every month, even though the card balance has been zero for months.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it an Amazon transaction? Are you sure you don't have a recurring payment on there?

No I have a zero balance on the card - haven't used it for months and, to be honest, I'd forgotten that I had it.

Ok what transaction is it? Some cards charge for a dormancy fee.

The first payment showed up on my bank a/c as "initial payment". The next 2 were just marked "MBNA". My Amazon card paper statements have been blank (i.e. zero balance).

    I can't believe that there's a dormancy fee of £25 per month??
  • MBNA don't charge dormancy fees so it won't be that and anyway if they did they wouldn't take that out of your account they would just charge the card and send a bill.

To me it sounds like you have either
    a) set up a direct debit but when the statement come in you paid off in full however the direct debit has still taken out under the t&c's of that instruction.
    or
    b) you set up a standing order to pay 25.00 a month.

If you are in credit they will return it to you free of charge just call them.

The direct debit on my amazon card appears on my bank statement as:
MBNA E B xxxxxxxxxxx where the x's are the first 11 digits of the card number.

Have the payments actually appeared as credits on your amazon credit card account?

If not, it sounds like someone may have set up a direct debit on your account to defraud you, which is surprisingly easy, as Jeremy Clarkson found out: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/7174760.stm

    Contact your bank straight away.

The reference number on the D/D arrangement (according to my bank) is my Amazon Card Number, but my last Amazon statement didn't show any transactions (debits or credits). That's why I can't work out why they've been debiting my account. I've written to my bank to cancel the D/D, and also to MBNA to cancel the card and ask for a refund.

Will be checking my bs as I too have not used my Amazon card for months and have had zero balances in mailed statements, which admittedly don't come often. I'd like to cancel the card, but in the past I've found card cancelling to be a palaver, though having read this thread I think I'm going to try.

Just a small thing. I bank online, and this gives me a list of direct debits etc. and when they are due to be paid. Would this sort of facility help you to at least see when you might expect another payment to go out.

The payments seem to be going out on the 28th of each month - £25 each time.
