Thanks to both of you for the advice, lesson learned, will be more careful in future, policy now cancelled. Suppose next question is , after topping up the ISA, whats best to do with the rest of the cash ?

Its going to be difficult to come forward with specific recommendations because we don't know much about you and have no idea about your attitude to risk. I suggest you do some research by looking through this site, Hargreaves Lansdown's website and City Wire have come forward with some useful recommendations for starter investors here:

    http://citywire.co.uk/money/5-isa-tips-for-one-stop-shop-funds/a474756?ref=selection-isa-recommendations

I am not recommending anything merely reading material as any decisions you make must be yours and yours alone as only you know what you are setting out to achieve. Alternatively, if you are unsure you should ask an independent financial advisor for advice and not a Bank which is tied to specific products.

I presume you will be using your annual cash ISA so anything you invest will be over and above your cash allowance.

A good place to invest through is Hargreaves Lansdown as they discount charges and have an excellent website and offer a wide choice of funds. They even offer the kind of Bonds suggested by the Bank but they will rebate most of the commission.

If you decise to go it alone you could - as others have - ask on this thread for advice on a strategy and specifics YOU have chosen in light of your personal saving objectives.
Take my advice at your peril.
  • The fact that you are asking this forum instead of your financial adviser seems to point to the fact that you don't trust your financial adviser.
So I'd advise you to go to an adviser that you do trust before making an investment.

Meanwhile read through the Key Features Documents and see if it backs what he was saying.
Check out the fund chosen on trustnet.com and see how the fund manager is rated on the Crown ratings.

Commission will be declared on your illustration.
Has he taken £1,400 commission upfront and has he provided £1,400 worth of service to you.
Alternatively if he took £740 commission with yearly trail, has he offered to review you investments annually as part of his service?

You were talking about Portfolio Invest Bonds not being the best option for investment if less than a six figure sum. I understand that they work along side the FTSE 100 and if the FTSE 100 does good then so does the investment. 10 years ago I put 15 grand in to a Portfolio Investment Bond and this has well over doubled within that time period. Obviously everyones circumstances are different regarding the amount of money they wish to invest and the amount of time they wish to invest. I recommend a Portfolio Investment Bond especially now as the markets are still poor but are set to strengthen within the near future. I would like to hear about other peoples opinions on this to see if they agree/disagree with my statement.
