Thomas Cook & Olympic

I booked a holiday to cyprus and received a call from Thomas Cook saying our hotel will not be open until 1st May, we are travelling 22nd April. They told me although we booked through TC, the agent is actually Olympic, they did offer another hotel but it is miles away from our orignal hotel and means we have to rely on taxis to get into the centre of resort or its roughly an hours walk. They are wanting us to pay more if we want another hotel closer to the resort and also changing from half board to B&B. Can they do this? Many thanks!

Hi Belfastlad, I sympathise with you, I had similar trouble as I had booked through part of TC as well, Airtours, and never again, even though Airtours are part of TC, they just did not want to know.
They will get round this by the small print, and they have offered to move you, even though its not want you want, they will probabaly tell you to complain after you get back.

I will find a link of someone who booked a holiday, I dont think it was with TC, but the other main OP, the hotel wasnt even ready yet, when the person told the Tour OP this they told them to still go and refused to change them or perhaps it cost too much money to change thier holiday, I cant remember which is was, but were told to sort it out when they come back.
The person is now taking it further, even getting Watchdog involved, and has set up his own blog of the sorry sad 14 days holiday situation, in fact his blog is so funny even though the situation is serious, and he has a day by day blog of the events with pics.
If you want a good laugh as he is very funny, but still you can see in his blog the horrible holiday he had as he was truely stitched up.
Now it appears he has written a book about it as well.

I will get back later with the link and others can read it as well.:D

It sounds as though this would be classed as a major change if the hotel is of a different standard or a long way from where you booked. As you are travelling in the next few weeks, you should either insist on another hotel in the resort or agree compensation to cover the cost of taxis. Go back to Thomas Cooks as your agent and get them to do the work for you, that's one of the reasons you should use an agent. You might also want to check and see if the hotel has a website and see whether they are really closed or not because hotels in Cyprus are usally open year round, they don't close in winter and therefore should be open for Easter. Earlier this year Olympic had a falling out with Monarch Airlines who they have used for most of their flying for years and most people suffered flight time changes, this sounds to me as though they may have had a similar disagreement with the hotel
