Rented House Problems!

Looking to see if my fellow MSE's are able to give me their views on the number of problems i'm having with my current rental property.
Moved into the house in november, the house had recently been white washed and new carpets fitted everywhere. House was freezing cold when we viewed and we we're assured it was just because the house had stood empty for months, looked like a nice house.
Moved in, central heating system was knackered, expelled most of the hot water it was producing down the back wall through the overflow. Most of the radiators in the house we're leaking and a number didn't work at all. Letting agent organised a gas engineer who was meant to turn up on the 23rd dec who never arrived and we we're left until 11th january without meaningful central heating or hot water. After alot of aggro a new boiler was finally installed after parts couldnt be found for the old boiler.
House was advertised as having a garage, door on the garage does not work, has no windows and fills with water everytime it rains. Hardly worth bothering keeping a car in there. This was one of the problems that the landlord said she would "fix".
As everyone knows the winter was a bit nippy, all the pipes outside froze and we had water backing up inside the house. Letting agent wouldnt send someone out until the following day but after an irate phonecall someone came out, ripped all the pipes off the wall and told me that they would be back soon to re route the pipes so they wont freeze again. Pipework is still on the floor outside, shower, sinks and washing machine now flood the garden.
The snow also collapsed all the guttering which is also sitting on the floor out the back garden and this still hasn't been fixed. We also have the back bedroom window which has broken and wont close. Again these are all problems they said would be repaired.
Now our latest problem is grey and thick black slimy mould growing up the bedrooms walls, in the kitchen, bathroom and utility room. I have asthma and its drastically affecting my chest. I've tried scrubbing it off with bleach but it just grows back.
LL has said that its just condensation but the house is heated at night and windows are left open in the day. The mould is pushing all the paint off the walls. LL couldn't really give a toss about the house, we haven't even got an inventory for it but she moans to the letting agents that we wanted to pay a week later due to pay dates!
I'll be honest and say i'm totally fed up with the house and want out, but i have a tenancy agreement up until June. Although if i'm stuck i'd still like to see what i can do about the mould, call environmental health in? Advice would be much appreciated!

You need to put everything IN WRITING to the landlord with a copy going to the agent as well. Ask them for a timescale for when they are going to have the pipes and guttering fixed. Warn them that you do not think the mould is caused by your lifestyle for the reasons you have given. Do this for your own protection in case the finger is pointed at you when you vacate, so they can't make any deductions form your deposit.
If you don't get a reasonable response call in Environmental Health.
It's not long to go until June and then you can get the hell out of there.0 -
As said above mate. I feel for you, it does`nt sound like much fun living there. Not too long to go and I would be thinking about giving them your notice, I don`t see a LL like that ever changing their ways. I`ve had problems with my EA in the 2.5 yrs I`ve been renting my apartment but they are more minor than yours. Never met the LL, lives in Germany. There is a regulatory for all EA`s, I threatened to complain to it and mine sorted themselves out not suprisingly. Leaving in a month and can`t wait to move on0

Id send an email to your LL saying that unless you see some serious movements to sort this out by Wednesday, youll call environmental health in.
If he doesnt care, then the EHO can make him care. I would expect to be moving though, but at least this will put things right for the next poor sucker who needs to move into the property without these things sorted. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I agree with the others phone environmental health, give them a week or so to get it sorted if nothing is done and they don't even try to help then get environmental health in. I really feel for you we too moved into a house that had been decorated and new carpets then when we had been in a few months the mould started to show etc but by the sounds of it we haven't had it as bad as u, if it wasn't for the fact we had just found another house I would be calling them myself, we got land lords father in to see the problems as actual landlord doesn't deal with house any more.Hhe sent a builder round who said he would be in touch within 2 weeks to sort problems he didn't , told LLs father he said he would chase it up and a month later still nothing and he even had the cheek to ask if we were interested in buying the house lol0
