benefit for Monday-Friday rent ?

HI , My husband has to work away from home mon-fri so rents a room in a private house, is there any benefit he/we can claim to help cover this cost ?

    Not as far as I am aware.

    I'd be very shocked if there is anything. Maybe his employer could help?

    He may be able to claim tax relief on the amount maybe? ie, I get to claim so much for using my home as an office as it's required as part of my job - if the requirement of his job is that he lives where he does M-F, and is in his contract, then he might be able to claim back on that? I'd be very surprised if there was a benefit available to pay for it as he obviously has another home that is his 'address'?

    Not if this is ongoing for more than a year, its a personal expense rather than a business one and HMRC would require it to be taxed even if the employer paid for it.

    Is he self-employed? If so, it may very well qualify as a tax deductible expense and this is something he can discuss with his accountant.

    Otherwise this is something to raise with his employer.
