Hi and good luck with TTC. I flew to Norway at about 5 months pregnant and felt great. We had a lovely time and it was a good time to visit there as drinking is quite expensive and I wasn't having any :)

All pregnancies are different. You might have bad sickness or you might have none, you might have some spotting which is a bit scary but you might not. Your safest and most comfortable time to travel should be the middle trimester - weeks 13 - 25.

What I will say from experience is that you never know how long it will take you to conceive. When I got married, I had travel vaccinations and waited until I'd had the boosters done a few months later before starting to TTC. It took over 3 years to get pregnant which I did naturally. We went on a number of holidays in that time booked up to 6 months in advance (so I wouldn't be more than 6 months pregnant at the time).

I had trouble coping with a 3hr car journey to Swansea when I was in the early stages of pregnancy! When I wasn't feeling nauseous I was needing the loo all the time, I had cystitis 4 times in the first 3 months  And with my second I had SPD so sitting in a plane seat wouldn't have been the most pleasant experience.
I think you have to check on what airline rules would be first to make sure you wouldnt be excluded, then consider the various possibilities of feeling less than blooming wonderful at the time. Don't mean to sound scaremongering and hope you get pregnant quickly and have a wonderful time with it...but they ain't all that nice!! Is it worth jeopardising your honeymoon for? If you decide it is worth the chance just make sure you have decent travel insurance just in case!

I flew 16 weeks preg with DS to India and 8 weeks preg with DD to New Zealand, 11 weeks on way home.

One thing to note is that you are at a higher risk of DVT when pregnant and flying, so advice is to stay awake for the entire flight in order to keep doing the foot exercises every hour and to take a walk.

Managed it to and from India - had a couple of 2 hour naps back and forth to NZ.

depending on the airline the max you can fly is 34 weeks. however you must have travel insurance and a letter from your GP stating you are ok to fly. The only problem is getting insurance that will cover you past 28 weeks.
Thomson Airlines and Thomas Cook airlines will only let you fly up til 28 weeks

I flew to Florida when I was 6 weeks pregnant and was there 2 weeks. Had morning (well evening for me) sickness for only those 2 weeks my entire pregnancy and needed an afternoon nap every day because I was so tired. I felt like it spoiled the holiday for my DH (although he insisted it was fine).

It would be worth checking the price of medical insurance for the States if you travel while pregnant. As an MSE contributor, I'm sure you wouldn't want to start married life with a huge debt owing for medical treatment.

This is a very good point. Worth thinking about but wasn't an issue for me. I recently travelled at 8 weeks pregnant and my cheapy annual worldwide insurance (with getmy) covered pregnancy related emergencies up to 28 weeks without additional cost or having to specify it on the policy.

Each pregnancy is different - you may be lucky and sail through it with no problems whatsoever, or you may have various problems ranging from mildly annoying things to problems that leave you bed ridden.

Even morning sickness varies. Some just get a little nauseous, but some poor ladies end up confined to bed as they are sick 24/7.

I'd wait and enjoy the holiday with your husband. It'll be nice spending time together with just the two of you, and something that you'll not experience again for a very long time once babies start arriving.

I worked as a flight attendant and flew up to 16 weeks, so I was flying almost every day and was fine bar the odd throwing up in the back galley moments. After that we also went on a trip to the West Coast USA and was also fine. Just make the most of it whilst you can, because flying with a baby in your tummy is far more enjoyable than flying with a toddler on your lap!

    Hi OP

I've just returned from the Dominican Republic at 26 weeks :) Had a great time but the time difference made my morning sickness come back with avengence for the first weeks holiday!

If you do fall pregnant check with your travel agents as to their flight/travel restrictions and make sure your travel insurance covers you.

I'm going to Spain in June, i'll be 26 weeks.

It's not too long a flight and i've had no health issues so far so fingers crossed! I actually can't wait for some decent rest and some sun (of which I am severely lacking here in ABZ) before bubbs comes along and it's all go!
