There are many and varied problems with depression/stress and money. Money probalems can cause mental health problems and mental health problems can cause debt problems.
Often debt problems can mask underlying issues.
Even positive changes can be stressful -ie getting married, getting a new job, moving house etc - there can be a period of adjustment.
I also reckon people possibly feel like they are in control when making minimum payments when in actual fact they are out of control so passing over control or loosing control can be very daunting.
Some people I guess feel guilty or shameful in running up the debts and having to default -whether this is 'deserved' or not - ie some people may feel guilty even though the debt was run up by an ex for example.
There can also be a perceived loss of status - of trying to be able to keep up with the jones'. You might not be able to go to the same expensive places as your friends anymore etc.
Also getting out of debt can be a slow process so I guess that feeling of initial relief can change.
I think dealing with your debt is the right thing to do - even though it may be hard. You might agree with some of the things I've said or completely disagree - either is fine. There is a lot of things wrapped up with trying to deal with debt. It might help you though to let yourself off the hook and recognise that it is not as easy as suddenly stopping spending. I would have a chat with some good friends if you can or if not definitely try the doctor for medicines/possible counselling and don't forget the Samaritans if things are overwhelming at any point.
Best of Luck

It's about having new thoughts about money and finance and building new habits and behaviours. You're doing the right thing in dealing with the debt. I guess it's not easy - a bit like telling someone who's overweight that it's all about not eating - well obviously! If only it were that simple.
It's going to affect everyone in different ways (as I was trying to explain in my above post). It's going to be a journey I guess - some bits will be easy and some bits harder but you'll get there.

I think the best advice when it comes to depression and I guess debt too is take each day as it comes and one day you'll be free from both. Make a positive action everyday to improve your situation, whether that's working extra hours and then coming home to your girlfriend for an evening of snuggling on the sofa watching a movie or popping 2 quid a day in a sealed tin instead of nomming chocolate from the vending machine (my personal evil) and having a piece of fruit you bought from home instead.
Keep focused and stay calm, you're doing the right thingLife is too short not to love what you do.0 -

Sounds like you've been working hard - don't overdo the shifts though.
Best of Luck on your debt free journey.
