taxi from stansted to kings cross/farringdon ?

anyone have any idea how much it would cost ?

I know there is the stansted express , but i'm a bit pushed for time and even once i get to liverpool street i would then have to get the underground and then walk about 1 1/2 miles.

any ideas on cost of a taxi ?

    A quick Google finds this:

    http://www.londontoolkit.com/travel/stansted_private_transfers.htm

which says: "A taxi transfer from Stansted to Central London is not very popular with passengers. The airport is nearly 40 miles from Central London, with transfers taking 80 minutes, often much, much more."

So sounds like it would be quicker on the train. Looks like there are trains every 15 mins from Stansted to Kings Cross (changing at Tottenham Hale) which take slightly over an hour.

I paid around £100. The bus services go to Liverpool Street and Victoria. Maybe you can take a taxi from there.

Stansted Express to Tottenham Hale, Victoria Line Tube to Kings Cross, takes about 50 minutes.

There are four trains and hour, costs £25 return. British Rail claim it is a 45 minute journey but normally about 50 minutes, certainly no more than an hour. The journey from Stanstead into town depending on your arrival time could be a crawl on the M11/NCR. National Express goes to Victoria and is cheap and cheerful and would be quicker than a mini cab as it can use the bus lanes through Central London.

Depends also on your final destination of course! I am not sure I agree that the buslanes will help National Express beat a minicab to Victoria! If speed limits are adhered to then maybe at some times of the day! I wouldn't bet on it. I'd bet on me if I was the minicab driver!

Remember National Express also go to Stratford in East London (Jubilee and DLR). If you were going to Canary Wharf then that is probably a quick way in.

Remember too, that some of the buses have a few intermediate stops which might be handy to swap to the train or a local bus service. Terravision's service if booked online well in advance can drop you at Bromley-By-Bow station again in the East. One of the NatXpress's Victoria service stops at Finchley Road in North London and one or two other stops also (Marble Arch possibly?)

If you ultimate destination is South or West London, then your options are generally perhaps more limited, but not always so - for example Greenwich and on to Lewisham in South London is perhaps quite fast via Nat Express to Stratford/Jubilee to Canary Wharf/DLR. Clapham Junction and on to Croydon in the South is probably fastest via Victoria but can be quite fast via Liverpool Street Northern Line then London Bridge.

https://www.tfl.gov.uk/journeyplanner is indeed excellent, and even gives cycle routes if you happen to take your fold up Brompton with you! But remember to hover your mouse over the green Search button after you have clicked it because when it gets busy, they only deal with people who are serious enough to keep their mouse hovering over the button (strange but true!).

Edit: Read the OP again - Kings/Cross Farringdon area ... Hmm ... I'd have to try a few alternatives in journeyplanner to be sure! Time of day makes big difference. All cars and buses all suffer the M11 in the morning rush hour - no buslanes there! I think I'd favour the train everytime for that one and give myself the option of a fast cab when I get to Liverpool Street.

Get the train from Stansted to Liverpool Street and then get a taxi from there.

I was in Liverpool Street on Saturday (Southend Vic to L'pool Street) and I wanted to get to Holborn. Apparently Saturdays are 'manic' trying to get on the Underground at L'pool Street. I wouldn't risk the Underground again - it was like a football scrum. But I agree, a taxi from Stansted is too far and too expensive.
