There should only be one credit search per credit application, so duplicate searches need removing. The lender does need to authorise this, so you can either contact them yourself or write to us and ask us to query the data for you. If you phone us we'll probably tell you it's quicker for you to contact them direct.

I am an official company representative of Experian. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"

  • Just a final update for anyone else who finds themselves in a similar situation. I wrote a letter of complaint and sent it off, a few days later I was contacted by someone from my local branch to tell me that they are removing 3 of the 4 searches from my record. No explanation of why it had happened etc, but at least they are correcting the error! Thanks to all those who helped.

I can confirm when I applied for an Aqua card (also part of the HBOS group) I was searched 6 times. After complaining and sending them a copy of my Experian file they removed them and gave me £50 for the inconvenience. Worth a try to complain definitely.
