Firefox 4 - Restart Loop > Uninstall > Reinstall > FAIL!

Hi all,

Had been using Firefox 4 (since release) on my Windows 7 PC.

It started playing up (displaying the Firefox has crashed message box, restart... type of thing). A reboot didn't fix i,t so I uninstalled Firefox, rebooted again and reinstalled, however the installation doesn't appear to be completing.

If I try to open up Firefox from the desktop or start menu icon (both of which show the default Windows icon button, instead of the FF icon), I get a message saying "The item referred to by this shortcut cannot be accessed. You may not have the appropriate permissions."

I'm logged on as Administrator, so don't understand why I'd not have sufficient permissions to run it.

When I search for the Firefox executable in the Mozilla Program directory, it doesn't appear to be there (kind of confirming that the installation isn't completing).

I've tried downloading Firefox 4 from Mozilla and Filehippo... but getting the game results.

I've run CCleaner, Spybot S&S, Spywareblaster and AVG... all of which don't provide any clues to potential malware issues.

Any ideas clever people of MSE Land? :o

Whilst this is such a blaise answer(and i do apologise) but the new firefox is just far too buggy for my liking so im not going to bother until its more stable.. Just crashed all day long when i first got it so thats out the window.

I would switch to Chrome, but use SABnzbd for usenet downloads (and love nzbstatus for FF).

Your reply wasn't really blaise... just honest!

I quite like Opera, but it doesn't seem anywhere near as speedy as FF and Chrome :o

Could it be a corrupt profile? Have you tried copying it to somewhere safe in case it's not the problem, and then deleting it from %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
Uninstall if you can and reinstall.

Yeah, latest build. Generally keep up to date with all my installed software (often resulting in frustration!)

I thought this might be the case too, but it doesn't appear to be a profile issue, having deleted and allowed FF to re-create.

OK. This is a long shot, but a couple of years ago I couldn't get some printer software to install.
I solved it by creating a new administrator account and it installed without a problem. I have no idea why it worked or what the problem was. Worth a try maybe?
