Hi there we are planning to have an easter mini break in Cardiff (easter saturday through to easter monday) me, OH and LO who is 3 . Any ideas of fun (and frugal) activities). We have our hotel and 2 nights dinner and breakfasts sorted. But maybe a nice tea shop/cafe to go for a special lunch and nice parks/ outdoor activities. We will make a trip to Cardiff castle so any tips about that would be great as well. Open to all suggestions
Thanks

you should try St Fagans
http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/en/stfagans/
free entry, free easter egg hunt on over the easter, £3.50 car park its got a lovely little tea shop as well.
Are you staying central Cardiff or on the outskirts?0 -
Yeah, St Fagans is brilliant. There's a bus there, but if you drive the car park's cheap. Free entry to St Fagans once you've parked/arrived. Lots of walking around to see the different houses, or you can stick close to the "castle" and gardens and just play poo sticks in the water.
Take your own food, there's not much choice there.0 -
Opposite Cardiff castle are lots of little quaint arcades with a Welsh gift shop if you like that, and lots of little cafes and eateries too, and many other querky shops. cardiff bay is worth a visit, you can catch a boat from by the castle to the bay , its regular like a ferry service (weather permitting). there are some boutiques there and a nice ice cream place as well as Harry Ramsdens and Pizza express, Gourmet burger bar, starbucks type places too.
St Fagans is good, but about 8 miles out of Cardiff.
Techniquest is good not sure if LO is too small for that yet. You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
Roath Park and lake is good for half a day if the sun is shining. Large playground, feed the ducks, feed the fish in the greenhouse fish pond, go on a boat trip, or row yourself.0

If the weather's good I would recommend a walk around the Cardiff Bay area. Normally lots going on and there are usually free performances in the Millennium Centre0

Is everywhere open on easter sunday as usual.0

If the weather is fine you can get the train to Barry island, takes about 20 mins, station is near the beach0

As a complete contrast to Cardif Castle, also go and see Castle Coch - in Tongwynlais North Cardiff. Its a fantasy 'fairy-tale' Castle which you'll see as you approach going North the Coryton M4/A470 interchange.
Incidentally, this interchange is also the best way to get to St Fagans by car - M4 west, exit Barry, Cardiff Airport - a few miles down this road entrance to St. Fagans and car park. Expect to stay several hours, some food would be wise - cafe expensive. Afterwards - either at exit head for Cardiff Bay, or personally try Penarth front - the Victorian Pier, and/or the cliff top walk.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
thanks guys for all the tips! any nice family friendly restaurants/cafes of note?
