Dublin on the cheap?

Hi All,

I'm headed to Dublin at the end of the month. Does anyone have any deals on hotels etc or reccomendations about what I should do there?

Thanks!

Save up if you fancy a pint - they're nearly as expensive as Paris apparently

Dublin is no more expensive than most capital cities that use the Euro. Yes, if you're going purely to get ale'd up in the tourist traps, it won't be cheap (€5-6 is the going rate for a Guinness in Temple Bar - although getting a beer on Las Ramblas or on the banks of the Siene is hardly cheap) but then, other costs are cheaper than many other European cities. We found that eating out, getting there, entertaining ourselves and staying there can all be done relatively cheaply.

Yeah. I am meeting up with some locals there so hopefully they will know some cheap places to go. Temple Bar is a must see though right?

Not in my opinion, it's just an area with lots of bars.

I suggest you pop to your local library and pick up a guide book which will tell you the 'top 10' or 'top 20' things to do in Dublin.

Or check out Tripadvisor, they have a helpful Dublin forum.

Off the top of my head:

    City Tour on open-top bus
    Guiness Storehouse
    Jameson's Distillery
    Dublinia/Viking World
    National Museum
    Botanical Gardens
    Zoo
    Dublin Castle
Trinity College & The Book of Kells
    Christchurch Cathedral
    St Patrick's Cathedral
Kilmainham Gaol - now THAT IS a 'must see' imho
Malahide Castle - out of the city
Howth - out of the city

Lots of great statues dotted around:
    Molly Malone
    Oscar Wilde
    James Joyce
    Famine figures
    Hags with the Bags
    Children of Lir
    Phil Lynott

It's hard to recommend without knowing what sort of things you're interested in.
