Help Needed please

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, Me and my partner live in a 2 bedroom flat. We have economy 7 electricty with a hot water tank that get heated through the night and electric heaters on the wall. There is no gas.

We have been with a bill for £1026 for 3 months over xmas.

Apparently we have used 55 day units and 16 night units. Even though we both work full time and when we have are at home together we are always in the same room so the heaters have only been on in one room. We never even had the heaters on overnight.

It seems really excesive and everyone I have spoken to says it seem right. Everytime we speak to Npower we keep getting conflicting stories, the man who lived in there previously appaerntly his bill for the year was £1360 so we dont know how our can be that for only 3 months? Although now I have spoken to them this morning and now he did use the same amount as us and we should never of been told what his bill was!! They have been really incosistent with there stories and we really dont know what to do anymore about it.

Can any one offer some advise?? We mentioned taking it to the Ombudsman but they said it would come straight back to them.

For E7 to be worthwhile you should be using a high percentage of your elec on the night rate, whereas you are not.

Please provide the following information
Start readings (day and night) of bill and type of readings (Acutal or Estimate), and
End readings (day and night) of bill and type of readings (Acutal or Estimate).

The heaters don't sound like storage heaters, so will be very expensive to run and you shouldn't be on an Economy 7 tariff.

Firstly was the meter reading on your last bill estimated or an actual meter read? This bill could be a 'catch up' bill i.e. if your last meter readong was underestimated you could be paying for those units as well as for this 3 months.

It was an exceptionally cold period before and over Xmas, but if that 55/16 day/night units are a daily average(over 6000 units) it is very high, but not unbelievable. On a decent 'normal' tariff(i.e. 24/7) that would cost about £600.

My boss had a similar issue last winter when he rented an apartment with electric heating he wasn;t used to, he burnt his way through £1600 over the winter. if your aren't storage heaters (ie ON at night OFF during the day) you'll have an added 10-20% by being on the E7 tariff that charges premium prices during the day.

Long term work out what kind of heating you have, exactly when its on and how much its using. How to set it up efficiently, then decidde whether its more efficient to be on an E7 or standard tariff (some suppliers let you on standard tariffs with E7 meters by adding up the 2 readings and billing you as tho you had 1 meter, not all do this and others will try to charge you to change meters. Find one of 1st type.

10-20%? More like a 50% premium!

Are you on their standard tariff? Even without addressing the E7 issue you could still save 40% or more by simply getting off the standard tariff.

They are not Strorage heaters, Its a new flat so I dont understand why it is an economy 7 meter but electric heaters!! Only good for heating the water tank really.
