2003 Peugeot 206 1.4 SW (estate)
In Sep 2010, the engine managment light came on briefly and took it for a diganostic analysis, these were the fault codes:
P1110 Air flow inconsistent
P1336 High combustion misfiring on several cylinders
P0300 Random misfire detected
Auto electrician cleared codes, test drove it, seemed fine.
Advised to monitor and if it happened again, would think about changing coil pack. Not sure what was causing it but a coil pack would be a good place to start (£150)
March 2011, driving car, engine management light came on, this time flashing and bleeping. Car goes into limp home mode.
Next day car is fine again.
Took it to a different garage, exact same readings as before.
He said if it was coil pack that it would say "coil pack" on analyser. Car run for 20 minutes, not one misfire, taken for a test drive and fine. Light not on. He said he think's its the ECU throwing out random readings.
Advised to change ECU or get rid of car. In every other way car is great. It's taken 6 months for the fault to occur. Codes cleared again. It's costing £45 a time just to have a diagnosis.
What I want to know is how safe the car is, ie. is there a chance if it's an ECU giving a false reading that the car will one day go into limp home mode and not come out of it?? That it will be undriveable?
If it was a case of a minor inconvenience every 6 months or so, I would be loathe to get rid of car.
I have priced up ECU and it would be £1000 :eek:or more to have it changed, and the car is only worth £2k tops. Not sure if you can get second hand ECU's?
Any advice what to do?? x
Just some advice please.
