It heats water using electricity. It is immersed in water, hence its name.
If you heat your water using gas you do not need it.
If you switch it off completely and you still have hot water you don't need it.0 -
HI,Yes, I checked last night when I got home and there is an immersion timer in the cupboard in the bathroom. I have lived there for two years and just noticed this which is amazingly lazy on my part. Think of the money I could have saved

I re-set the time last night so it should be more economical now. I also need to find out what an immersion heater does and whether I need it!!!

immersion heater is used in mainly all electric houses for heating water, and as already said, if heating water by gas, then switch it off.
Surprised in two years you never heard the immerser 'singing' in the mornings.0
