"Sensitive" complete chicken cat food?

Tig is recovering from an operation to remove an intestinal blockage (intussusception) and had been put on Royal Canin Sensitive by my vet. However, it has completely bunged him up and I've been advised to get him onto a wet food asap!

My vet was out of stock of the feline Sensitivity Control pouches and said they were very expensive when bought through the practice (nice man who appreciates how much Tig has cost us in the last 2 weeks!).

I have some tins of Sainsbury's Encore (like Applaws) which I can give him short-term, but it's only a complementary food - not complete with taurine etc.

Is there a cheaper complete, good quality chicken or chicken and rice food around? R C Sensitive pouches are £28.46 for 48 x 100g pouches on Amazon, so about 60p per 100g.

Hi - hope Tig is doing well. I'd try Nature's Menu. Not chicken alone but they do a turkey and chicken option. It's good quality human grade meat and it is complete.

One of my girls had a dental including 2 upper canines removed yesterday and she's doing really well on Nature's Menu. Haven't even needed to add water, just made it mushy.

It's seems to be available at most pet shops and usually £5-6 for a multipack of 12 x 100g sachets.

The trouble with home-cooked stuff is that it doesn't have all the nutrients that cats need.

Thanks Sooz, but I think it has to be chicken or white fish based as the tissue removed was biopsied and found to show signs of chronic inflammation. We're not sure if this is from a disease or Tig scavenging from our neighbours who don't use the proper waste bins for food .

He also suffered massive haemorrhaging and is dangerously anaemic so needs all the help he can get!

Have succumbed and ordered from PetPlanet, next day delivery.

  • I looked into this when I was advised my young-ish cat needed to be on wet RC sensitivity for life. I have two cats so this meant I needed to try and keep them separate at meal times or find somtheing they could both eat. Luckily for me his issues have been resolved and he's back to his normal food *touch wood*.

I was buying RC sensitivity from Pet Planet too (the cheapest I found including delivery) which worked out to 65p per 100g but when he was eating 4 pouches a day this worked out to £78 a month to feed one cat! The only readily available alternative I found available in the shops was 'Hi Life 60% real meat chicken & turkey'. Think they were around 47p a pouch so a bit cheaper.

HiLife pouch cat food is a complete pet food for adult cats. Turkey & Chicken (in variable proportions, min.60%), Sunflower Oil, Minerals, Fish Oil (min.0.1%), Tapioca, Chicory Extract (min.0.01%), Seaweed Extract (min.0.01%),Green Tea Extract (min.0.01%) Vitamin A 10,000 IU/kg, Vitamin D3 1900 IU/kg, Ferrous Sulphate Monohydrate 5.6mg/kg, Potassium Iodide 11.2mg/kg, Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate 2.2mg/kg, Manganese Sulphate Monohydrate 5.6mg/kg, Zinc Sulphate Heptahydrate 224.1mg/kg.

I thought this was the answer to my problems but unfortunately BOTH cats refused to go any further than sniff it - they wouldn't even lick it!

The other alternative I found was 'Grau' from Zooplus - the 400g cans work out to 42p per 100g so a third cheaper, ingredients are literally poultry & rice but with all the important vitamins included to make it a complete cat food rather than complimentary.

Grau Gourmet Canned Cat Food is a content-rich, high quality complete diet for all kitties. Poultry with wholegrain rice:
    meat & innards (poultry min. 72%), grain (wholegrain rice min. 4%), meat broth, calcium carbonate. Vitamin A (2,000 IU/kg), vitamin D3 (200 IU/kg), vitamin E (25 mg/kg), taurine (1,000 mg/kg), zinc (0.35 mg/kg), manganese (1.4 mg/kg), iodine (0.5 mg/kg).

If your cat needs to be on RC sensitivity long term then worth looking into the Grau, you can get 10% off your first order when going through a promotional link.

Hope this helps and that your cat makes a good recovery :)
