Hi guys,
I have been reading the site and forum for years and always found good advice but I think I need to post a thread on this one for some advice myself.
Basically I had a credit card with HSBC that was referred to debt collection. I received an offer that if I paid off £218 of the £365 debt the debt collectors would accept it as settlement of the matter. I took them up on this and paid the amount. However I have now received a letter from a different debt collection company called Newman DCA saying that they have been advised I made a payment to their client, however all payments must be made to their office and they expect the outstanding balance of £145.
I can't believe how cheeky they are, I 100% clarified with the people I spoke to at the first agency the offer on numerous occasions and asked it the debt would be removed from my credit history which they confirmed. I now have no idea who to speak to at HSBC to find out what they think of this and Newman are saying they didn't accept the deal, even though they also offered the same deal to me. Any ideas and advice much appreciated!
