Is it just me or are windows live mail and firefox thunderbird becoming to bloated?
I have just re-installed windows 7 and in the process installed the latest windows live mail for email and newsgroups.
I hate windows live mail.
All I can say is bring back outlook express.
So I thought I would try firefox thunderbird. As a newsreader it is just as bad as windows live mail
Even outlook express was better.
And when I try to import my accounts it just hangs.
So any suggestions for an unbloated email reader and news group reader that doesn't install the kitchen sink?

outlook express also had a built in newsreader too.
To be honest, used outlook express, then Thunderbird years ago, but moved onto googlemail and never looked back.
Now I no longer need to import, and can read me messages on the go.
Outlook Express always had a poor newsreader, about the worst there was.0 -
I like Pocomail seems to be exactly what you describe.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

Pegasus Mail - https://www.pmail.com
Gravity newsreader - http://mpgravity.sourceforge.net/
Both excellent.0 -
Thunderbird works fine for me both on XP and Windows 7. Of course it's far better than OE ever was. No way is it bloated.
As far as I know it's only possible to import from an existing OE or Outlook account, not windows mail. As you say MS removed OE from Windows 7 and replaced it with Windows mail.
If you let us know which ISP you are on, we can advise on the Thunderbird settings for email and newsgroups

I use Windows Live Mail, and agree the current version isn't as good as
previous one.
For newsgroups I use Eternal September
http://www.eternal-september.org/
Register and you can read and post to usenet newsgroups.
It's free and works well, with no problems.
Good luck0
