New House Aerial Question

Hi, I've had an offer accepted on a house and I'm just thinking about the TV arrangements. The vendors have a SKy dish, I've never had one and don't really want one (Freeview does me fine) but they did say that there was also a normal aerial socket for the TV .
I'm just wondering. I notice that there is no visible aerial on the roof. Indeed, in the entire development (which is only 10 years old) there are no visible aerials on any of the roofs. Most houses seem to have SKy dishes. My sort of technical question is, can they put TV aerails INSIDE roofs now instead of on top of them. I know this sounds like a bit of a dumb query but I'm a total technophobe. Thanks for any info.

Simple answer . . yes
many houses have loft aerials, although it can attenuate the signal. I have an aerial in the loft that receives freeview ok:j
. .. just noticed your screen name, I'm resisting to offer to check it out for you:rotfl::rotfl: . .. sorry0 -
If they have a loft aerial you may or may not get a decent freeview signal. You won't know until you try.
You can always get freesat or buy an old sky box from ebay, or similar, and hook that up, should the freeview signal prove inadequate.0 -
Yes, ours is in the loft also

On some estates there are Restrictive Covenants that don't allow residents to install aeriels. But if there are Sky ones up I guess it's OK.
Worth checking though.0 -
You could always just buy a freesat box when they move out assuming they leave the sky dish0

Get a freesat HD box, use the existing dish and you can then get HD or free!!!0

Thanks for all the replies. Unfortunately, I just found out that the area to which I am moving won't have Freeview coverage until digital swithover in 2012If they have a loft aerial you may or may not get a decent freeview signal. You won't know until you try.

Re: Sky Box - So I could get a old sky box and just use the existing satellite dish without paying sky a subscription? This wouldn't be illegal or anything, would it? And what channels would I get? Thanks.0 -

You can use the dish to feed Freesat, Freesat-from-Sky or a Sky box.
Nothing illegal at all.

If you use an old Sky box you will get the the Free to Air channels with no need for a card, if you have a card you will get the Free to View channels as well(confusing!)
A card costs £25 currently from Sky.

Thanks. Freesat looks like the best bet then. You can use the dish to feed Freesat, Freesat-from-Sky or a Sky box.

I just looked in the Argos catalogue and I can get a Freesat box for only £30. Hopefully the vendors won't be taking the satellite dish with them as it would cost £85 to install.0
