Car insurance for the unemployed?

Hi all,

Is car insurance generally more expensive for unemployed people? I don't have any points, in my 30's with 3 years no claims.

Any info is appreciated.

Cheers

open to debate really, i would of thought so as your at a higher risk of defaulting. partenered? married? maybe putting househusband in instead maybe better,

Yes the premium does go up if you tick any of the boxes, unemployed, house husband, retired etc.

So your more of a risk if you driver fewer miles and in quieter times than driving in the rush hour madness.
But i am a better risk if i add my mother who has had accidents and made claims.

You cannot put yourself down as a househusband if you are genuinely unemployed eg in receipt of JSA

Whilst not entirely disagreeing, that depends on whether you're lieing to the insuters, or the DSS.
  • According to the Job Picker on this very site (link) an unemployed person will pay 8% more than someone who declares themself as a housewife/househusband.

you can be a houshusband if your partner is working and your at home and looking to get another job.

wast suggesting that he did oput himself down as houshusband why i skaed if he was partenered of married! as he is not then that answer his question on that aspec.

Maybe you made a mistake and said you "had a house husband", rather than what you meant which was you "were a househusband":D
