Wanted! Current Account for bills / shopping.

The OH and I are looking to set up a current account as a bills and shopping account - this would need to have debit cards with it.
Obviously, only about £1000 a month would be going in to the account, so we couldn't go for one with a minimum salary/annual pay in of more than £12,000.
Also, we are both currently with A&L (and I have a Barclays account too), so we would be looking for a different bank, for the simple reason that the cards will be a different style and less easily confused
Really not bothered about branch access, as it would be a simple DD in, DD out and debit card account - internet banking would be ideal.
So - any suggestions from anyone please?
Cheers

How about nationwide flex - branch, phone, web access.
If you pay in £1000 a month to nationwide you would get a good rate of interest on the money (4.25% pa).
And if you go abroad you get commission free cash withdrawals and payments.
Other options if you pay in 1000 monthly.
Coventry first account (5.6% pa but you have to send off for cheques)
Lloyds TSB classic Plus (4%) (branch/web)
Intelligent Finance has no minimum payment restriction (phone/web) (3%)0 -
I posted a similar(ish) thread recently. There might be some useful info in it for you. I think i've decided on Nationwide....although i haven't got around to opening it yet!

I would highly recommend Lloyds TSB. Paying in £1000 per month would entitle you to their interest rate of 4.00% on the classic plus account. Not the best rate maybe but i've found their internet & phone banking access the best there is, something to be considered when wanting to keep a close eye on debits & bill payments. Their phone banking is also a free phone number, something i'm not aware of any other bank offering.
Hope this helps

Thanks to all for the advice - a few in there we had never even thought of before, so well worth asking. We have put an application in to Nationwide Flex, so fingers crossed for us please (I've never had a joint account before).
Cheers!Hope for the best, plan for the worst.0
