Proof of NCD

A lot of people don't seem to grasp that if you are on say 10 years and have an accident then the 2 year reduction comes off 5 years and not off the 10 years which sort of proves the point about the extra years of NCD being an internal issue.
Mine doesn't.
Not that I ever made a claim to prove it, but it goes down from the maximum of 9 years to 7 to 5 on successive claims.0 -
Keith, thanks for the advise. I will keep all renewal notices from now on. But for now, I'm completely stuck as I only have the last 3 years. I shredded all the previous ones. I think it would be far better for insurance companies to quote both the % and perhaps more importantly, the number of years of NCD on renewal notices. But this would be asking too much from insurance companies as it would make it very easy for customers when switching.0

Hi, there does need to be more conformity between the insurance companies, however your current insurer states it as a %age, I just checked through my photocopies and out of the last 7 insurers only one quoted as a %age, the last 6 have all shown the number of years. Your best option would be to write a nice letter to your previous insurer and hope they keep up-to-date records. Have you actually rang your current insurer and tried to see if they will match your new quote?0

Thank you once again Keith. I got a quote from santander for £281.10 and I noticed that my current insurer said they will price match. So I rang them up and without any hesitation, they accepted my renewal for the same amount. That's a reduction of £70.87. Very happy now with that, but I am totally appalled with insurance companies trying to rip people off. I think it's utterly disgraceful. I know there will be those who will disagree with my comment!! I will now write to my previous insurers and ask them to send me proof of my NCD. With my current one, I will have 7 years - although I haven't made a claim in 15 years.0

I won't use a company that pricematches.
If they can make money at the lower price, (and they must be able to, otherwise they wouldn't make the offer to keep a customer they know will shop around, and will shop around next year)
I figure that if they try to rip me off in the first place, they don't deserve any more business.0
