This is great fun - and not just for kids. http://www.vikingsplash.ie/
Also - I couldn't recommend this bus tour enough. http://www.irishcitytours.com/hop_citydublin.htm
It will bring you round at least 20 different places of historical interest and it's hop on / hop off with buses running regularly all day. You can get off and see everything or you can just stay on the bus where the guide will tell you lots of history as you go.
Just looking at the bus site and it gives you 25% off the viking splash tour so do it first but if you only have time for one and really want to see as much of Dublin as you can then just do the bus tour.
And enjoy your visit to Dublin. My parents and grandparents were from there. :-)0 -
Just came back from dublin this weekend and really enjoyed the guiness tour!0

The Guinness Tour is good, even if it is a bit too commercial. Personally, I found the Jameson Distillery a little better but they are both worth a look.
Aside from that, Kilmainham Gaol is very good. Not too expensive if I remember rightly and the tour guides are excellent.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
I second Kilmainham Gaol, 6 euros for a guided tour (run every half hour or so) and it's a fascinating insight into Irish history. Well worth seeing.0

I also agree with kilmainham gaol, the tour guide we had when we went was brilliant, one of the most interesting places I visited in Dublin. The city bus tours are great too, they are a great way to get around. Have fun!

I thought that Kilmainhan Gaol was one of the most hauntingly atmospheric places I've ever been.
The story of Grace Gifford and Joseph Mary Plunkett was incredibly moving.

If I had to name one 'must-do' in Dublin it would be Kilmainham Gaol - and I agree that the guides are excellent.
I also thought the Famine Figures (on Custom House Quay) very good.0 -

Do the bus tour, jump off at Kilmainham Gaol then go to Cafe en Seine for a drink and some food. It's on Grafton Street. Sorted.0
