Can't connect to free wifi

Not sure if this should be here or the Mobile Phones forum.
I recently got an Orange San Francisco with internet access. I tried to access the free wifi at Wetherspoons and although it said it was connected, it wouldn't access and web pages or apps.
I tried at the same place a few months ago with a netbook and had the same problem.
Any idea if there is something I need to so or what may be wrong?

its an educated guess, but I think there dhcp server has run out of addresses, happens to me quite often in hotels etc.. if you know how then set a static ip that is in the correct range.
if there router is at 192.168.0.1 then you have 192.168.0.35 or something.
if you imagine how many people connect to the router and how long they will stay, the lease time on an up could be a week, then the 100? addresses that the dhcp server will have will run out pretty quickly and the owner will not realise there is a problem as his ip is still leased.0 -
I've often had trouble with the WiFi at different branches of Wetherspoons and never got to the bottom of it.
The DHCP address problem is a good theory and may be correct but as I recall Wetherspoons use "The Cloud" for their WiFi and I guess they use a more "professional" setup than a domestic WiFi router.
The Orange San Francisco also has well documented WiFi issues which you either don't experience or drive you to distraction depending (it seems) on the behaviour of the WiFi you are attempting to connect to.0 -
Thanks for the replies. So it looks like it's nothing I'm doing wrong which is what I first thought.0

I get that a lot on my n95 too..all over the place. Connects then won't do anything. Been meaning to go into it, I assume it's a setting as the lappie works some of the same places..I'll be back if I figure it outHi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
